Swagelok valve design & performance

On average, industrial facilities have about 7,500 valves installed. The largest plants may have as many as 40,000. Research points to seals at valves as the top cause of fugitive emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). We can calculate the cost of each leak in euros and detail how to mitigate them.

Ball and Quarter-Turn Plug Valves
Ball and Quarter-Turn Plug Valves
Our ball valves are designed for fast quarter-turn operation and leak-tight sealing. They are available in a variety of sizes, materials and configurations, making them suitable for a wide range of applications, from general purpose to specialized high-purity environments.
Needle and Metering Valves
Needle & Metering Valves
These valves have straight-line flow coefficients from 0.004 to 0.16; low- and high-pressure service; and materials of brass and 316 stainless steel. Each metering valve is factory tested with nitrogen at 1000 psig and body tested.
Check Valves
Check Valves
Swagelok inline check valves are available with both adjustable and fixed opening pressures, suitable for controlling backflow in standard and high-purity environments. Overflow valves stop excessive flow downstream, increasing system reliability and safety
Relief Valves
Relief Valves
Our R Series valves provide overpressure protection in general industrial applications with set pressures from 10 to 6000 psig. They open gradually as pressure rises and close when pressure falls below a set pressure. Other types may serve to vent signal line pressure
Quick Connects
Quick Connects
Our quick connectors require no turning, turning or tinkering and are available in single-sided seal, double-sided seal and full flow models. The QF series has a compact coupling and full flow without orifice restrictions, and the O-ring is easy to replace. Colored quick connectors help prevent accidental mixing of piping.
ALD valves
Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) Valves
ALD valves offer extreme precision and consistency. UHP versions have ultra-long life with high-speed actuation, flow coefficients from 0.27 to 1.7, submersibility to 200°C, and surface-mounted, tube-welded and VCR® end connections
Bellows-Sealed Valves
Bellow-Sealed Valves
Bellows valves are useful in both general and high-purity applications. Their gasketless design and welded seal prevent leaks. U-series valves, for example, have a secondary containment system that prevents leaks to the atmosphere even if the primary seal fails.
Diaphragm-Sealed Valves
Diaphram-Sealed Valves
DL valves require only a quarter turn to go from fully open to closed, and a position indicator ring provides visual confirmation. DS valves require about one and a half turns from fully open to closed and have a flow coefficient of 0.30 for high flow requirements
Manifolds
Manifolds
We offer instrument manifolds with 2, 3 and 5 valves. The 2-valve manifolds are for static pressure and liquid level applications; 3- and 5-valve manifolds are for differential pressures. Flow is controlled by a series of stainless steel needle valves, each with a specific function
Process Interface Valves (DBB).
Process Interface Valves (DBB).
DBB valves provide a smooth transition from process piping to instrumentation in a single configuration; with fewer connections, lower weight and less space required. Use them for isolation points, direct mounting, close coupling, extreme service and more.
Grab Sample
Grab Sampling Modules
A key feature of the GSM is the switching valve that directs flow. Using the Swagelok 40G series ball valve for this switching valve, configurations are available with either 2 or 3 valves. This allows for simultaneous control of fluid routing, reducing the number of sequencing steps required to draw a sample.
Fluid Distribution Header example
Fluid Distribution Headers
Our fluid distribution headers have a main isolation valve and several outlets, each with its own isolation valve. As a distribution manifold, the header connects several users to the source of a utility fluid such as cooling water, steam, compressed air, or plant nitrogen.

Let us combine valves with other components

We can assemble the valve(s) you need with other components to provide a customized, turnkey solution.

We combine safe, reliable Swagelok components to produce assemblies for analytical instrumentation, grab sampling and other applications. Design support, fabrication, assembly and pressure testing are included. Results are guaranteed, as are individual Swagelok components. We even schedule time to be on-site at installation to answer any questions.

Frequently asked questions

What are the different types of Swagelok ball valves?

Among the options are:

  • One-Piece Instrumentation Ball Valves, 40G and 40 Series
  • Three-Piece Process/Instrumentation Ball Valves, 60 Series
  • Three-Piece Trunnion-Style Ball Valves, 83 and H83 Series
  • Full-Flow Ball Valves, GB Series
  • Medium-Pressure Double Block and Bleed Valves, IPT Series

To learn more, download the literature on valves offered at the top of this page.

What is the pressure rating of a Swagelok valve?

Swagelok offers medium- and high pressure valves, fittings, and tubing. Among them are IPT Series check valves, needle valves, block and bleed valves, and proportional relief valves. They are designed to meet requirements of demanding applications such as alternative fuel industry infrastructure, wellhead control panels, hydraulic control panel, process control, instrumentation, chemical sampling, and more.

How do we choose a Swagelok valve?

We recommend contacting our representatives. But if you prefer to get started yourself, we recommend the STAMPED method for selecting the best valve for your application.

Are other brands interchangeable with Swagelok?

Do not mix or interchange product components with those of other manufacturers. Doing so voids the warranty.

Can we rebuild or repack Swagelok valves?

Yes, with one of our rebuilding kits. We offer rebuilding kits for manually actuated and remotely actuated valves. Each kit contains detailed instructions on how to adjust or replace the packing or rebuild the valve if needed.

Do Swagelok valves reduce fugitive emissions?

With a LDAR program and low-e valves, yes. Learn how to minimize fugitive emissions and their associated costs by addressing leaks and choosing low-E certified valves.

Benzene methane and ethanol are some of the most common gases of concern. Dynamic and static seals on valves pumps and flange connections are the most common sources of fugitive emissions.
